I have a new version of the Explorer Grid map available, showing the Explorer map numbers and boundaries as a grid overlaid on a 1:1,000,000 scale map of mainland UK. To recap for those who missed the first post, it enables you to see at a glance which Explorer maps cover a particular area, or which ones are needed for a long distance route:- you just plot the route then switch to this geo-referenced Explorer grid map and read them off.
In the first version the map numbers were solid black, which obscured all the map detail beneath them. In this new version I’ve given them transparency, which allows the underlying detail to be seen at high zoom levels but keeps them readable at lower levels.
If anyone wants this map file, email me via the Contact page of the main website for the URL to download it (8Mb file).
In my first attempt at this version I made exactly the mistake I highlighted in the previous post on this subject, and failed to tick the checkboxes for UTM and Lat/Long grid. The calibration was considerably off kilter in some parts, that’ll teach me to read my own stuff!.
Edit: I forgot to mention that this grid map is for Memory Map mapping software .
