Western Tarrens 2-day backpack (curtailed)

Sunset from Tarrenhendre pitchA curtailed hike of the western ridge of the Tarren hills, culminating at Tarrenhendre, descending via the Dolgoch Falls and climbing around Craig yr Aderyn to Llanllwyda.

This is the first section of our longer planned route of three to four days that was effectively cut short by a dramatic mishap at the Dolgoch Falls on day two, a serious situation but one that could have been a lot worse – details in the full report.

  1. So glad you are both relatively ok. A fall like that doesn’t bare thinking about. You will both be sore for a few week I suspect. Recover soon.

  2. Thanks very much Alan, no significant injuries fortunately.
I’m fine but Vivien won’t be carrying a backpack for a little while yet, that shouder will take some time to heal sufficiently.
    Best regards
    Geoff

  3. I’m sorry to hear of your accident Geoff and glad you and Vivien escaped serious injury. Resistance training doesn’t just strengthen muscles. It strengthens bones, ligaments, and tendons too, so perhaps that contributed to the lack of serious injuries in you both. I’ve strength trained for years and I too know its value.

Such a shame as it looked like a great trip up until that point. Those are lovely pictures, and the sunset over the sea is stunning. Hope you have a better one next time Geoff.

  4. Many thanks Steve.
We really appreciated the strength training that time, along with keeping up our protein intake:- it’s said that one of the most important overall health markers at advanced age is muscle mass/strength. It amazes me that she could do that at 79.
Anyway a good hike with a fine sunset and morning views.
    Best regards
    Geoff
